The Fridtjof Nansen is a class of anti-submarine warfare frigates of the Royal Norwegian Navy. Nonetheless, the anti-aircraft capabilities of the Fridtjof Nansen allow Norway to describe warships of the class as multi-role frigates.
This type of frigates gained its prominence among the international audience when the KNM Helge Ingstad collided with a Maltese-registered oil tanker, Sola, and de-facto sink as a result of the incident. Later, the warship was recovered but with the cost of repair prohibitive it has been decommissioned and will be scrapped.
1st frigate on the planet ( ever) that was sunk by the oil tanker….such great recommendation for that ship.
How old are you, 14?
We have also Fridtjof Nansen anti-submarine warfare frigates.
Naval Strike missile equipping the frigate for surface to surface engagements is light and andcarry light warheads at subsonic speeds, compared with Russian counterparts. This is the problem with NATO platforms, unable to provide long range packing a lethal warhead at multiple Mach speed missiles.
