Frowns Of Ukrainian Civil War

On July 10, an explosion targeted a a KrAZ truck of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the southern outskirts of the village of Hranytne (Granitnoe) in the province of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side said that the truck had been hit by an anti-tank guided missile launched by forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

“As a result of the hit, one soldier was killed. Another soldier sustained injuries of moderate severity,” the Ukrainian military said in a report on the situation.

The destroyed truck was part of the convoy which had been transporting the government of the Kiev-controlled part of the province, Pavlo Kyrylenko. The governor suffered no injures.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the incident calling it an attempt to undermine the confllict settlement process.

“This violent attack has clearly shown who really doesn’t want peace in Donbas. I consider the shelling in Hranytne an attempt to undermine the Minsk process and threaten the agreement on resuming talks in the Normandy format. But the calculations of the provocateurs haven’t brought results. Our commitment to the diplomatic solution remains unchanged,” Zelensky said.

Additionally, the President ordered the General Staff to increase activity of the Ukrainian Army along the contact line with the Donetsk and Luhansk (Lugansk) People’s Republics, and to react to such attacks firmly and immidiately.

Self-defense forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic rejected reports about their involvement in the attack. According to this version of the events, the truck was carrying ammunition. The ammunition detonated when soldiers were unloading it violating safety regulations.

The July 10 incident plays in the hand of the entire political wing of the Ukrainian elites that exploits the ongoing conflict to increase own influence and gain an additional revenue. For example, this is the influence group led by former President Petro Poroshenko.

It should be noted that self-defense forces of the people’s republics do have little resources to carry out sabotage operations behind the enemy lines, in the area controlled by the Ukrainian Army. The lack of resources, specific of the conflict as well as task and goals pursued by the DPR and the LPR are among the main reasons behind this situation. In comparison, pro-Kiev forces carry out sabotage operations in the areas of the people’s republics on a constant basis.

Pro-Ukrainian sources say that on the side of the DPR, the LPR and Russia there are also power groups interested in keeping the situation in eastern Ukraine destabilized. Nonetheles, most of the factors surrounding the July 10 incident contribute to versions saying that this was a false flag or an safety rules violation accident used to destabilize the situation.
