The upcoming Turkish military operation against US-backed forces in northeastern Syria will likely target the border city of Tell Abyad and several villages around it, Haitham Afisi, the leader of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) told the news outlet Enab Baladi on December 12.
“We are ready for any military campaign east of the Euphrates,” Afisi added.
Few hours earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the operation will be launched within a few days. However, he didn’t provide further details.
A source told Enab Baladi that commanders of the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) have been holding meetings with military officials in Turkey for three days now. According to the source, Abu Hatem Shaqrah, leader of Ahrar al-Sharqiyah, is attending these meetings.
Ahrar al-Sharqiyah is one of the biggest Turkish-backed FSA groups in the northern Aleppo countryside. The group played a key role in the Turkish military attack on the Syrian-Kurdish area of Afrin earlier this year.
The ongoing meetings in Turkey indicate that Ahrar al-Sharqiyah will be leading the upcoming attack on the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Turkish military will likely limit its participation to “command and support” in order to avoid any military confrontation with U.S. forces in the region.

That had nothing to do with my reply which was about using others to get covered in blood so they didn’t. However on your point I know from experience many countries claim their forces are the bravest and / or the best which may be more about pumping up their confidence before they realise the realities of war. That being said the USA certainly falls into that category as well. As well means they are not the only ones to do it .What do trolls who have never faced war know anyway. However in the First World War when Turkish troops arrived at Gallipoli they were told they didn’t come to fight but had come to die for their country..And die they did . It wasn’t 300 Russian mercs but a collection of different tribal groups and a number ( unknown ) of Russian mercs who thought they were being allowed to take control of an oil field . The had no defenses against an air attack and were caught in the open by everything America had available.. So no surprise they suffered such casualties and one should be cautious too assume that will be the norm against defended troops.
Clearly the 300 dead mercs were part of a battalion sent to overpower the US coalition forces protecting an oil field. This was a major Russian operation sending 600-800 well armed fighters on a mission. Certainly Russian intelligence knew it would not be a cake walk, that is why they sent a well armed battalion.
Do you lay the blame on Russian Intelligence for not telling them they would be in the open? Or for sending them without any air support?
