On July 1, Gazprom announced that it stops supplying gas to Europe due to planned repairs in Nord Stream. A representative of Nord Stream AG said that both lines of the pipeline will be stopped for routine maintenance. Gas supplies will be reduced from 11 to 21 July. Nord Stream’s deliveries will be cut in mid-July as the company reportedly faced problems with its gas compressor units. Repair or replacement of the units is needed. They are made in Canada, and the return after repair in Montreal is complicated by Canadian sanctions against Russia. In particular, the operation of mechanical components and automation systems will be checked.
The company said that in this regard, the daily volume of supplies has been reduced to 100 million cubic meters.
In turn, Germany said that Gazprom took the pipeline out of service for political reasons. German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck said that repair work on the pipeline, which affects the volume of pumping, was not to be carried out by Siemens Energy until the fall.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, held the European Union responsible for reducing gas supplies. He said that from a technological point of view, the mechanical infrastructure of this pipeline is suffering because of sanctions imposed by the European Union.

The pumps in question are under contract of Germany’s Siemens Energy and the pumps are in fact being refurbished by Siemens Energy Canada. So what we have here is a “Lack of Communication” between Germany’s Siemens Energy, Canada’s Siemens Energy as to whether Europeans get cut off from their winter heating and cooking needs.
My guess is it’s some hot headed politician who’s clueless on the situation. To me this does not point to some deliberate nefarious action, because 1. the time interval is so short (11 to 21 July), plus 2. that it was scheduled for July (June/July should be pretty much lowest gas use month unless there are bad heat waves spiking gas turbine use to keep electric grid in order) with such advance notice.
Gas is usually kept in reserve storage (caves, deep abandoned mines converted to this purpose). Shouldn’t be a problem unless EU is incompetent. The US publishes gas storage data very often (weekly?). Would be interesting to see a EU chart or gas reserves vs time.
The EU published a couple weeks ago that their storage was 90% full, I suspect the Russians “maintenance” down time is to bring those reserves down to a point they can’t be refilled as Russia is only pushing 40% of the gas it was pre-Ukranian war. Biden says that the US will make up the difference but refusing to allow more to be produced so the America citizen will take it in the butt in order that Europe doesn’t have to.

Do Not give the EU the opportunity to store large quantities of gas for the coming autumn and winter months. Cut the gas supply to the EU if necessary.
