According to the German counterintelligence, Russia increases its propaganda in order to to destabilize the German society.

The German counterintelligence reported about sudden strengthening of Russian propaganda, aimed to destabilize the German society, the Reuters news agency reported on Thursday.
“We see aggressive and increased cyber spying and cyber operations that could potentially endanger German government officials, members of parliament and employees of democratic parties,” head of the domestic BfV intelligence agency, Hans-Georg Maassen, said. According to him, in this way Moscow tries to influence the German elections and undermine stability in the country.
The official also mentioned huge financial resources, which are spent in order to disconcert Russian-speaking residents of Germany, as well as to sow perplexity among politicians. Maassen explained that the final goal of hackers and propagandists is a split of the EU and lifting of the anti-Russian sanctions.
Earlier, head of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Bruno Kahl, also said that there is a potentially high level of cyber threats from Russia during the election campaign for parliamentary elections in 2017.
There is a risk that using such reports, the German authorities can introduce censorship in some form – for example, to restrict access to some websites on a provider level.
