Germany’s Parliament has approved a one-year extension of its military mandate for Afghanistan. The decision is allowing the military keep its 1,300-strong force in the war-torn country until March 31, 2020.
The German force is deployed in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support mission, providing support and training to Kabul government security forces.
The decision comes amid the ongoing US-Taliban talks over the political settlement of the conflict. Previous years clearly demonstrated that the US and its allies are not able to achieve a military vicotry on the Taliban. Therefore, the US started direct talks with the group in an attempt to reach a solution.
Taking into account that one of the key Taliban demands is foreign troops withdrawal, the German decision to prolong it mandate likely signals that the US-Taliban talks have not led to a comprehensive progress yet.
cheap way trying to appease dumb dunce donny. might work. but the three d’s = dumb dunce donny!!!!!
