On June 7, Libyan sources shared videos showing forces loyal to the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) shooting down a combat drone supporting the Libyan National Army (LNA) near the coastal town of Sirte.
The combat drone was apparently shot down with a ground-launched anti-aircraft missile. The exact type of the missile remains unknown.
Another video shows GNA fighters celebrating near the wreckage of the drone, which was identified as a Chinese-made Wing Loong II. UAE forces are known to be operating this type in Libya.
In the last two months, at least four Wing Loong II combat drones crashed in different areas of Libya. The drones were likely shot down by GNA forces.
GNA forces, backed by Turkey, are now carrying out a large-scale operation to capture Sirte. The LNA is holding onto its positions in the town.
