Google Faces Backlash Over Claims It ‘Deleted’ Palestine From Maps

Originally appeared at ZeroHedge

Over the weekend social media posts claiming that US tech giants Google and Apple “removed” Palestine from their map applications went viral.

The posts were somewhat misleading, notably one which garnered over a million “likes” on Instagram, given it appears Palestine had never been labeled on the searchable maps in the first place.

Yet it still unleashed a storm of controversy, leading to Palestinian leaders calling for a boycott of Google among their population, and the Palestinian Authority (PA) declaring it would look for an “alternative”.

As people in the West Bank and Gaza brace for an expected Israeli annexation of the Jordan Valley and up to 30% of West Bank territories, the PA vowed in the wake of the Google controversy: “this is a revolutionary year, and we will fight for the needed change to bring Palestine on the maps,” according to a statement.

Iran also weighed in, with a top diplomatic official in Egypt saying, “Palestine and its history is dug into the hearts of the Palestinian people and the free people of the world. Although Google removed the name of Palestine from the map search, you will not forget the awakened human consciences of Palestine,” as quoted by the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA).

In prior statements Google appears to have denied the substance of what are actually long running accusations:

“Our approach to photographing the areas on the maps has not changed, as Google gets information from organizations and mapping sources when determining how to place the disputed borders, and we are still neutral with regard to geopolitical differences and making every effort to objectively display these areas,” it said.

Israel doesnt exist. Its all Palestine, from the river to the sea.

What is Palestine? where is it? is it a state? does it have a currency? no it doesn’t. Israel is a state by definition, Google made the right call.

There you’re grasping at straws and you know it. Their borders are recognized by the UN on the basis of the pre-67 situation and they enjoy an observer state status and a represensative at the UNGA council. So yes,it IS not only a real people, but also with a prospective integral country with contiguous borders denied by a major US-supported military power called Israel which occupies most of its territory on the ground. So if it doens’t exist technically the way it should today it’s because of illegal Israeli military occupation and illegal settler activity and expansion, not because it’s illegitimate or nonsensical. It’s not the rule of law,but of the jungle enforced by Washington and Tel-Aviv. Google and Apple are US firms by definition accountable to their country’s political position which happens to be one of the 2 or 3 countries on this Earth (along with Israel itself and the … Marshall Islands I think ? lol) still not recognizing the Palestinian membership in any way whatsoever. Not because it’s the “right call’. They simply have no choice.

The cold bitter truth gryzor, is that they are NOT a state till they sign a peace deal with us and WE recognize them as a state. Even if the entire world says they are a state, if their closest neighbour doesn’t think so and doesn’t work with them, then they will fail. It takes two to tango. Kind of like the Serbia-Kosovo thing, Kosovo means nothing if Serbia doesn’t cooperate with it.

It is bitter, cold, yes, but also illegal, criminal and immoral by modern world standards, and its supposedly “civilized” order of nation self-proclaiming as “democratic”, which is a cornerstone of Israel’s own propaganda to justify its every misdeeds, and falls short of being worthy of that title.

indeed IZ. Today your situation is a proof that still, in this day and age, one people can absolutely stomp upon another through the sole, sheer force of its superpower-supported military and make it live by its sword and will, swallow anything shoved down its throat, and gradually lose whatever remains of its space and livelihood while the world sits by and simply “condemns” and signs non-binding Resolutions.

The Israeli-Palestinian situation is a modern tragedy of our times and a regression back to the era of empires reigning supreme over any smaller entities no matter how unfair or disputed it was.

What you’ll get by consistently refusing them their every rights is that they’ll end up in some sort of massive insurrection again and maybe even a third intifada, where thousands upon thousands if not more will die, but just as the previous ones, make them secure some of their rights.

Apartheid, and perpetually expanding colonization augmented by military occupation, and physical killing and destruction of a people without second thoughts and limitless Chutzpah only lasts so long without consequences. South Africa learned that the hard way, your time will come if you keep you current course. Even Kissinger himself repeatedly said that and I agree.

You are no Gods, and you’ll see how much I’m right in a coming years should your governments and cabinets continue to consider themselves immune from both international law and moral obligations. Previous generations similarly thought they had won over the Palestinians and successfully burned their souls forever, and it ended in the first major uprising that led to the PA itself spawning from the PLO, recognized all the way to the UN with a few major cities officially turned over to their control to this day, despite Israeli opposition. And of course, countless victims on both sides that could have absolutely been avoided, had reason been more common among Israeli Zionist leaders who always want it all for themselves no matter the issue.

Nothing is set in stone, and the middle-eastern flashpoints are among the most fluid in the world, so wait & see. I do not wish to be right in the worst case scenario, but if things have to come to that, nothing and nobody will be able to stop it.

So maybe, just maybe gryzor, they need to return to the negotiation table? since the Jordan Valley won’t be annexed, they have no real reason not to start negotiations and decide mutually who gets what. In the end, most of the West Bank will be theirs and even I accept it, the thing is their leadership likes saying NO to any proposed offer, as long as it hurts Israel they like it. Their best offer was 91% (!) of the West Bank in 2000, but even that was not enough.

gryzor84

They say NO because Israeli offers are unacceptable and Israeli politicians now it full well, they extend the “offers” merely for show and hide the fact that they love the current trend where they can land-grab by the day.

What honest people in both sides need today is concrete, trust-building measures, so far all Israeli cabinets have done is to violate the letter and spirit of the Oslo Accords while the PA respected it in full by disarming and cooperating in full with the Mossad and Shin Beit. The annexion probably won’t occur not out of Israeli courtesy but unexpected inability, Palestinians aren’t stupid and no fools to that fact, it’s not a concession, it’s a missed attempt and they still actively want to achieve this despite all odds, as even the Trump admin couldn’t follow suit in such daring step-up of the occupation. They know that the far-right Likud-dominated cabinet means no real taste for any negotiations or even a two-state solution so for now it seems like a deadlock.

It’s Israel that has refused any meaningful return to the basis of the signed Oslo Accord, not the Palestinians, let’s not invert role here please. HAMAS doesn’t want anything, that one is true (but the crippling humanitarian blockade doesn’t help Gazans see through it and Hamas leaders love it) but not the PA and its west bank administration.

The only saving grace could come from a re-energized and reformed Gantz who would distance himself again from corrupt Bibi and stop alienating his Israeli Arab allies, and the former finally ending up in his pre-booked seat in a VIP prison cell.

It shouldn’t be necessary, but this is yet another demonstration that international usury is behind the shit of google and company. Anyone in their right mind will never use google and similar junk.

Most of the US corporates are controlled by Jews, whose ancestors were immigrated from Germany in 1930s. You would recognize their German surnames still clearly present on US media networks. Mind control tricks are working fine on Americans, but didn’t work on German minds before 1932. When Germans voted for nazis in 1932, mind controllers moved to Hollywood with their companies. Didn’t even bother to change names of their companies: Metro Goldwyn Mayer or Universal Studios. We were told that nazis invented the war propaganda machine. Actually nazis inherited those mind control tricks from Babelsberg media industry after 1932 election.
