The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies, backed by the Russian Air Force, continued their advance towards the strategic ISIS-held town of Sokhna in the eastern Homs countryside. The SAA advanced 1 km east of the Al-Heel field and deployed in only 11 km away from Sukhna. The SAA also advanced 2 km in the northeast direction.
Some pro-government sources claimed that the SAA is only 8 km away from Sukhna. However, these claims have not been confirmed so far.
Furthermore, the SAA advanced from its positions in the Al-Tafah al-Janoubiah hills and captured a number of points and hills at a depth of 2 km and deployed in the outskirts of Taliat al-Sharkiah north of the Homs-Palmyra highway. According to the Hezbollah media wing in Syria, the SAA managed to kill and wound a number of ISIS fighters during its advance.
Meanwhile, ISIS fighters attacked SAA positions in Wadi al-Wa’ar near the Syrian-Iraqi border. ISIS claimed that its members killed 25 Syrian soldiers and captured 3 others. ISIS also destroyed several SAA vehicles and seized weapons and ammunition.
ISIS claimed that 19 Syrian soldiers were killed after their fighters attacked SAA positions in east of the Al-Heel field, and claimed that two SAA tanks were destroyed with an ATGM and a rocket-propelled shell during the clashes.
ISIS has expanded its operations against the SAA in order to stop the ongoing government advance on Deir Ezzor. However, ISIS has not yet been able to recapture any position in the eastern Homs and southern Raqqa countrysides.
Shit happens !
