On September 9, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) advanced 1km deep in the heavily fortified area of al-Safa following heavy clashes with the remaining fighters of ISIS, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SNA). The state-run new agency said that the SAA discovered several caves and hideouts of the terrorist group in the newly liberated areas.
“The air force and the artillery of the army carried out precision strikes on ISIS terrorists movements and on their fortifications and hideouts deep in the rocky valleys [in al-Safa], which resulted in heavy losses,” said the SANA’s reporter in the southwestern governorate of al-Suwayda.
Meanwhile, Sham Hamdan, a reporter for the Syrian News Channel, revealed that 3 pro-government fighters were killed and 22 others were injured while advancing in al-Safa. According to Hamdan, most of the fighters where slightly injured with IEDs, which had been planted by ISIS members.
The SAA is currently advancing slowly inside the ISIS-held pocket in al-Safa in order to ensure the safety of around 30 civilians, who were abducted by the terrorist group more than a month ago.

it means SAA have yet to break any of their lines of defense.
It’s like a jungle. There are no clear lines of defense and guerilla fight were very effective against large group of soldiers movement. The problem is they are forced to into attacking them in this unfavourable territory because of the hostages. Otherwise they can just setting up counter ambushers against the fighters hiding in this place.
