Greater Idlib: Casualties Reported Following Explosion At Fuel Station Near Turkey’s Border (Videos)

Late on January 12, a massive fire broke out at Eddo fuel station in the town of Kafr Lusin in northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

Several explosions were reportedly heard before the fire. The fuel station is located near the Turkish border. The area is known to be an infamous stronghold of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib.

The fire claimed the lives of two people and wounded several others. The death toll from the fire could rise in the upcoming few hours.

According to Syrian pro-government activists, the Eddo fuel station is located next to a key fuel depot of HTS. Due to this, the possibly of sabotage or a pinpoint strike by a drone can’t be ruled out.

In the past few years, the Syrian Arab Army and its allies attacked key fuel facilities of HTS in Greater Idlib on several occasions.

Today, HTS maintains a strict monopoly over Greater Idlib fuel market. Fuel smuggled from Turkey or northeastern Syria has become one of the terrorist group’s main income sources.
