On September 20, a soldier of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) was killed and two others were wounded in an attack that was launched from the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, which is occupied by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and several other terrorist groups.
The three soldiers were manning a position near the town of Milaja in the southern countryside of Idlib when they were targeted with an anti-tank guided missile. The al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room was behind the deadly attack.
One of the soldiers died on the spot, while the two others were wounded. They were reportedly taken to the National Hospital in the nearby town of al-Suqaylabiyah.
The attack was one of four ceasefire violations reported by the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria on September 20. HTS was responsible for all four.
Just four days earlier, Russian fighter bombers conducted a series of airstrikes on Greater Idlib in response to similar ceasefire violations. The airstrikes hit a large base of HTS in the outskirts of the town of Sheikh Yusuf in the western Idlib countryside. The Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said that the airstrikes wiped out three depots of HTS and killed 45 of the group’s terrorists.
The SAA followed the Russian airstrikes with an series of intense artillery strikes. Three terrorist of HTS, two of whom were minors, were killed when their position in the town of al-Atarib in the western countryside of Aleppo was hit.
The ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey more than two years ago, is still holding up despite all recent violations by HTS and its allies. The recent Syrian and Russian strikes on the region are only meant to deter the terrorists.
