At least four militants were killed or injured in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib as a result of guided missile strikes by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

On May 3, the SAA targeted a pickup truck of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement near the area of al-Burnas in the northern countryside of Lattakia with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). The pickup was completely destroyed. At least two Syrian militants were killed.

A day later, the army struck a pickup and motorcycle of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) near the village of al-Qarqur with an ATGM.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, two Uyghur militants were injured as a result of the ATGM strike.

Both Arhar al-Sham and the TIP are allies of al-Qaeda’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, which leads the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room in Greater Idlib. The operations room violates the ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was bordered by Russia and Turkey last year, on a daily basis.

The SAA strikes were most likely a response to the militants’ repeated provocations. The situation in Greater Idlib is still far from being stable.
