The Greek government has delivered or is about to deliver an “unbelievable” amount of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, Greek Minister of National Defence, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, announced on June 5.
Pro News quoted Panagiotopoulos as saying that Greece has been providing military support to Ukraine to fight the “authoritarian Russian regime”.
According to the Greek outlet, the weapons and ammunition Greece delivered or about to deliver to Ukraine are:
- 122 BMP-1A1 Ost infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) along with 15,000 73 mm rocket-propelled grenades for the vehicle’s main gun and ammunition for the secondary 7,62 machine gun.
- 2,100 Grad 122 mm rockets;
- 20,000 AK-47 Kalashnikov assault rifles along with 3,200,000 7.62 mm cartridges;
- 17,000 155 mm artillery rounds;
- 100 RPG-18 anti-tank weapons;
- 60 FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS [man-portable air-defense systems].
Greece has been shipping weapons and ammunition to Ukraine with six C-130 transport aircraft from the Hellenic Air Force and 15 others from the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Germany will compensate Greece for the BMP-1A1s by providing it with a number of Marder IFVs free of charge. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz revealed that he proposed this to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after the two-day European Council meeting in Brussels in May.
Like many other Western states, Greece has been dumping its old weapon and ammunition stockpiles into the hands of Kiev forces on the hopes of thwarting Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. So far, this policy has only worsened the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and hindered peace talks between Moscow and Kiev.

Russia needs to track those flights and blow them out of the sky as soon as they cross the border. Why are they not? Granted, this is just old junk that they want to get rid of but once their planes cross the border, they are legitimate targets.
These flights are not necessarily entering Ukraine airspace. Most supplies are transferred across land borders

As i wrote a few days ago, it’s better for Russia that greece provides BMP-1 to Ukraine instead of Gerrman Marders. Fighting ability of greek BMP-1 is very limited. So, don’t worry for them. Better worry about Turkish UAV
True, these are junk! Greece has 500 but only 100 are still operating, they will probably break down long before they get to the front. I think the West’s new strategy is to dump all its old equipment in the Ukraine, so Russia goes broke having to dispose of them after the Ukraine surrenders.
The last thing Germany wishes to see is Marders burning somewhere in Donbas or to the hands of Russians At the same time they need to show some soliditarity to Ukraine (especially the day that German gas company paid in rub for gas for the first time)
“Marder” is very old as IFV-1, this is from 60’s and based on “Leopard-1” and modernized in 80’s. There is nothing special to see them burning. We saw turkish “Leopards-2” burning in Syria. Though M is better than IFV-1, because M has much thicker armor and its 20-mm gun is better than 73-mm low ballistics gun of IFV-1, but both vehicles can be penetrated from any side with hand rocket launchers, not to mention ATGM. So 100 IFV-1 or 100 Ms — almost no difference.

Hahaaaaaa look at that BMP-1. That rusty tin can can’t even go over a cardboard box without getting stuck. You could neutralize that BMP with a sling shot or a pellet gun. This is too dam funny but in reality its a dark tragic form of genocide. It will be the genocide of an entire generation of Ukrainians if this needless war continues. With all respect, BMP-1s are used in russian army as well, so what’s the point to blame greeks to send them to Ukraine? And BMP-2s are not much better either, nor the RTR series for that side.
Not IFV-1 (BMP), but its chassis with new turret: module with 30-mm gun and ATGM called “Basurmanin”, IFV-1AM. IFV-2 is better, because it has 30-mm gun instead low ballistics 73-mm, a bit better armor. “Marder” can’t resist 30-mm armor-piercing shells (may be M1A3 can), IFV-2 can resist “Marder’s” 20-mm shells from 500 meters.

Meanwhile, Turkey has violated Greece’s FIR about 40 times this year. It’s no problem to exchange active equipment, with inferior German equipment, that may or may not work.
