Grinded On Flanks, Ukrainian Army Retreats In Kurakhovo

The Ukrainian army cannot stop losing the strategically important stronghold of Kurakhovo, retreating on a wide front around the town.

On December 16th, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian federation officially confirmed the full control of the village of Elizavetovka located on the southern flank of the Kurakhovo front. The mop up operations were completed in the settlement, assuring the security in rear, while the front was already pushed to the west.

The official reports by the Russian Defense Ministry are usually released with some delay, while the Russian troops are already repelling the Armed Forces of Ukraine from their strongholds nearby.

Russian forces are completing the elimination of the Ukrainian grouping grinded in the cauldron west of Uspenovka. According to the latest reports, the village of Annovka (Gannivka) came under Russian control. Russian forces are completing the mop up operations in the village as well as in Vesyoly Gai nearby. According to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, there are about 200 Ukrainian soldiers left in encirclement near Annovka. According to the previous reports by Ukrainian military sources, the Ukrainian grouping there consisted of about 700 servicemen. The abandoned units were not allowed to retreat and their command did not give the appropriate order to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. The only way out from the cauldron is to retreat to the Russians.

Meanwhile, the Russian bridgehead is growing in Uspenovka. Russian forces are already in control of the northern and eastern streets of the town. Battle for Konstantipolske is ongoing, while the Russian army is expanding its zone of control around Sykhie Yaly.

Ukrainian military sources confirmed another Russian breakthrough along the Sykhie Yaly River. According to preliminary reports, Russian forces launched attack on the village of Zelenivka and gained a foothold on the streets, surrounding the village on the flanks.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying their best to save control of the Konstantinopil-Kurakhove road, urgently reinforcing their defense near the village of Ulakly located only 2 kilometers north of Zelenivka. At the same time, Ukrainian forces are repelling Ukrainian attacks in Dachnoe located west of the water reservoir. The road is yet to be cut off by the Russian troops but it is already under close Russian fire control and is no longer safe for the retreating Ukrainian soldiers from Kurakhovo.

On the northern flank, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are rapidly expanding their zone of control, grinding Ukrainian forces in another pocket between Starye Terny and Solntsevka. The Russian Defense Ministry of Defense is yet to officially confirm the full control of Solntsevka from where Ukrainian forces were recently repelled. North of Solntsevka, Russian forces secured their control of the village of Zarya and are expanding their zone of control to the west.

Russian attacks were already reported in Shevchenko west of Starye Terny.

In the town of Kurakhovo, the Russian army won the battle for the central district. The Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic claimed that the Ukrainian military is in control of only about 20% of the town. Russian troops took control of high-rise buildings and the dominant heights in the north of Kurakhovo continued their advance to the west.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are retreating to the western part of the city to hold defense in the industrial zone and in the facilities of the Kurakhovskaya TPP. They are already mining the streets in the western district with private houses in an attempt to slow down Russian advance. The Ukrainian garrison is forced to take the all-round defense because Russian forces are advancing both in Kurakhovo and from Starie Terny.
