A Kashin-class guided missile destroyer ‘Smetlivy’ has started accomplishing the task of a planned passage from Sevastopol to the Mediterranean Sea where it will join the permanent Russian naval task force operating in the area, the Russian state-run news agency TASS reported citing Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Vyacheslav Trukhachyov.

“The Black Sea Fleet’s guard ship Smetlivy, which took part in anti-submarine warfare drills and fired surface-to-air missiles against an air target the other day, has started accomplishing the task of a planned passage from Sevastopol to the Mediterranean Sea,” Trukhachyov said in a statement.

Smetlivy will join the Russian Mediterranean grouping in the distant maritime zone that includes up to 10 combat ships and support vessels, including the most advanced frigates Admiral Grigorovich and Admiral Essen, the spokesman said.
