On January 21, a suicide car bomb explosion hit the area close to a base of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) Special Forces in Maidan Shahr, capital of Wardak province. After the explosion, at least 3 gunmen stormed the base engaging personnel deployed there. The attackers were eliminated in a firefight.
The NDS provided no details about its casualties, but local sources say that 12 pro-government fighters were killed and 27 others were wounded in the attack.
