On April 26th, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s forces carried out heavy shelling on Mitiga International Airport.
The airport is being used as a Turkish base of operations, out of which a large number of Bayraktar TB2 UAVs are being operated to carry out strikes on various targets.

The same photographs that claim Mitiga International Airport was shelled were used by the GNA to show that civilian locations were being hit by Haftar’s forces, according to the Libya Observer, citing the Government of National Accord’s operation headquarters.
Just days earlier, a Turkish UAV was filmed landing at Mitiga.

Meanwhile, the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) attack on al-Watiya airbase is entirely stalled, with no reports of clashes or any sort of push or siege. Haftar’s forces appear to have entirely pushed back the enemy offensive.
All of the GNA’s forces appear to be focused either on defending Tripoli or shelling Tarhuna, which is deemed as a key position of the LNA.
Tarhuna is located just south of Tripoli. The GNA’s Turkish-backed forces carried out heavy bombing on LNA positions in and around the city on April 26th.

The stalling in the GNA’s operations might also be due to the beginning of the EU’s Operation IRINI, aimed at enforcing the UN embargo on weapons deliveries to Libya in the Mediterranean.
The GNA condemned the operation, similarly to Turkey, because it impedes deliveries of equipment and fighters.
And if you now say, but they will enforce “the implementation of the UN arms embargo through the use of #aerial, #satellite and #maritime assets”, I say, yep. This is what the mandate says in theory.

This is essentially unacceptable, because in their view the LNA can still receive support from Russia, Egypt and the UAE, while the GNA is being strangled from military supplies, until Haftar’s forces manage to purge Tripoli and the entire country from terrorist elements.

One way or the other, this civil war must end. The EU does the right thing. This does not mean that LNA or GNA is better or worse. The EU must make sure to limit Haftar’s win.
You for real? EU? The EU/NATO are responsible, they bombed and destroyed Libya on false claims just as they did for Yugoslavia and that is not even mentioning Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and even Iran. Obviously history must be your worst subject or you are just ignorant, maybe both.
Yes, US is responsible for destroying Libya, and Europe is a complicit in this. They can make some of this good with the proposed arms embargo. I also share your views for the negative role of US in Iraq, Iran and Syria. With respect to Afghanistan the US role is not as black and white, remember all superpowers (Persia, Great Britain, Soviet Union and USA) badly failed there. With Yugoslavia, I do not agree at all, the Serbs did an awful lot to draw the NATO attention to them by pursuing their petty imperialistic ambitions to rule the Yugoslavian space and to maintain the artificially created Serb-dominated state called Yugoslavia at the expense of all other nations, though there was a strong US-originated anti-Serb disinformation campaign for sure.

Nope. Both Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union were artificial states. It is better that they do not exist any more. The notion that the Afghans desired the Soviet occupation, were supporting Babrak Karmal or his successor, or hailed the Soviet army as heroes is a clear delusion. I know we shall disagree. I leave it there. As said before, Russia in Syria is different though.

the only reason the GNA remains is Turkish imperialism…the LNA is preferred by France, Greece, Egypt and possibly Russia…it is difficult to know the position taken by the anglosphere—nearby African nations seem to prefer the LNA
