The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, released on July 17 video footage documenting a recent complex ambush that targeted a unit of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the central part of the Gaza Strip.
The ambush took place near al-Amin Muhammad roundabout in the Tell al-Hawa neighborhood to the south of Gaza City on July 9.
During the ambush, Hamas fighters targeted IDF vehicles and troops with three explosive devices, some of which made from unexploded Israeli bombs, as well as a rocket-propelled grenade. The whole ambush was coordinated using surveillance cameras.
The IDF said that a soldier from the elite Maglan commando unit was killed in central Gaza on July 9. However, it is unclear if he was killed in the ambush or in a separate attack.
Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza stepped up defensive operations in recent weeks, inflicting some serious losses on the IDF.
Another video released by the al-Qassam Brigades on July 16 showed the group’s fighters targeting multiple vehicles of the IDF and a building occupied by Israeli troops to the east of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza using rocket-propelled grenades.
Also on July 16 and 17, the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, released two videos showing its snipers targeting two Israeli soldiers in Rafah and in Gaza City’s Shejaiya neighborhood.
So far, the IDF has lost 327 troops during ground operations in Gaza and along its borders. More than 2,000 others have been wounded. Recent reports in Hebrew media also revealed that over 500 military vehicles have been damaged or destroyed in the Strip.
Meanwhile on the Palestinian side the death toll from the Israeli war has reached 38,794, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza. More than 89,166 others have been wounded. Women and children make up the majority of the victims.
Despite its recent losses and failures, Israel is yet to accept a deal with Hamas that would lead to a permanent ceasefire in the Strip.

it is generally easy to provoke the adversary into chasing guerrillas right into an ambush. drones aren’t that difficult to make and specialized drones for downing apaches probably wouldn’t be that difficult to make. some simple explosives are enough to destroy the tail rotors. a farm of only a dozen printers and they could be cranking out various fpvs capable of recon and carrying explosives to different targets, some maybe even in the air like helos.
imagine the ambushes which could be accomplished with explosive-laden drones. not even a direct line of sight required.
