The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, released on July 26 video footage documenting two recent ambushes that targeted Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops in the southern Gaza Strip area of Rafah.
The first ambush took place in the Yabna refugee camp. During the ambush, an Israeli force of ten troops and a dog were lured into a booby-trapped building, which was later blown up by Hamas fighters who monitored the situation using a hidden camera.
During the second ambush, which took place in the Shaboura refugee camp, Hamas fighters blew up an explosive-rigged tunnel located right under a building where two Israeli troops were present. Again, hidden cameras were used to monitor the kill zone.
It’s unclear when exactly the two ambushes took place. So far, the IDF has admitted to losing 330 troops during ground operations against Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza and along its border. More than 2,000 others have been wounded there, so far.
The recent ambushes show how Hamas continues to adapt and improve its tactics, even after more than nine months of relentless bombardment by the IDF.
While the Israeli bombardment has clearly failed to destroy the military wing of Hamas, it did destroy much of the Strip and kill over 39,000 Palestinians, most of whom were women and children.
Despite the heavy cost of the war, Israel does not appear to be ready to accept a ceasefire deal yet. The Israeli onslaught could go on for several more months.
