On August 9, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, the al-Qassam Brigades, released video footage of a recent complex ambush that targeted an armored unit of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the central Gaza Strip.
The ambush took place near the Al-Bara’ ibn Azib mosque in the Tell al-Hawa neighborhood to the south of Gaza City on July 26.
Hamas fighters lured an IDF armored unit into a kill zone that was prepared a few months earlier by targeting a building occupied by Israeli troops. The fighters then targeted the advancing unit with three explosive devices, and hit one of its main battle tanks with a rocket-propelled grenade.
Also on August 9, the al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, released video footage showing several quadcopter drones which were downed by its fighters in Gaza City. Electronic warfare means were apparently used by the group to capture the drones.
The al-Qassam Brigade, released another video on August 10 showing an attack with rocket-propelled grenades on a building occupied by Israeli troops in the Tel Sultan neighborhood to the west of the city of Rafah in the southern part of the Strip.
The videos released recently by the al-Qassam Brigades and the al-Quds Brigades indicate that Gaza armed factions are still improving their tactics and capabilities.
So far, the IDF has admitted to losing 331 troops during ground operations against Hamas and other factions in Gaza and along its border. Around 2,200 others have been reportedly wounded. In addition, over 500 vehicles were hit there, according to Hebrew media.
While the Israeli bombardment has clearly failed to destroy the military wing of Hamas, it did destroy much of the Strip and kill nearly 40,000 Palestinians, most of whom were women and children.
