Palestinian fighters have targeted more than 825 military vehicles since the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) began ground operations in the Gaza Strip, Abu Obeida, a spokesman for the military wing of the Hamas Movement, said in an audio message released on December 28.
“Since the beginning of the ground aggression, our fighters have targeted more than 825 military vehicles, including troop carriers, tanks, bulldozers, trucks, and other vehicles,” the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades spokesman said.
“Our fighters in all defensive positions continue to inflict significant losses on the enemy in its incursion areas, reaping the lives of its soldiers by the dozens and engaging in close combat with their vehicles and forces on the ground,” he added.
Abu Obeida detailed how Hamas fighters plan attacks against the IDF using “all available means, including machine guns, medium weapons, sniper rifles, hand grenades, explosive devices, anti-tank and anti-personnel and anti-fortification shells, and striking gatherings of forces with mortar and rocket shells.”
“Our fighters also carried out special operations by re-detonating the enemy’s unexploded ordnances in its vehicles and among its soldiers, rigging buildings and blowing them up with invading soldiers, detonating minefields, and targeting three enemy helicopters with anti-aircraft missiles in the last two days,” he said.
Separately, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades released video footage documenting recent attacks with rocket-propelled grenades on tanks and armored personnel carriers of the IDF to the east of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
Another video that was posted to social media showed an Israeli military helicopter retreating from near Gaza after a blast erupted nearby its landing zone.
The IDF admitted the death of an officer from the 551st Brigade’s 7008th Battalion and said that two other troops were wounded on December 29. This brought the number of Israeli troops killed since the start of ground operations in Gaza to 168.

Despite facing fierce resistance, the IDF is still attempting to expand its ground operations in Gaza, especially in the central and southern regions. The ongoing indirect talks between Israel and Hamas are yet to produce a new ceasefire agreement.
