On September 12, security forces of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) arrested twelve jihadists in Greater Idlib for unknown reasons.
“HTS arrested a group of jihadi fighters as they passed one of its checkpoints in the city of Idlib,” the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report.
According to the monitoring group, the jihadists were either working independently or affiliated with the so-called Fa Ithbatu Operations Room. The operations room, which was founded a few months ago, is led by Horas al-Din, the main rival of HTS.
HTS has arrested many jihadists, including a number of foreigners, in Greater Idlib over the last few months. The group’s most recent detainee was notorious French jihadist “Omar Diaby,” who leaded a small armed group known as “Firqat al-Ghuraba.”
Last month, foreign jihadists in Greater Idlib threatened HTS with serious consequences if it continues to arrest people without any clear charges.
By persecuting foreign jihadists, HTS is apparently hoping to appease its newest ally, Turkey, as well as the West.
In a recent interview with Switzerland’s LETEMPS, HTS’ Shar’i [religious leader], Abdul Rahim Atoun, called on Western countries to “normalize relations” with people in Greater Idlib, who are, in his opinion, represented by HTS.
There is no way in this world that HTS can be acceptable to Assad and allays under any conditions. Job will be finished when they are all dead.
“Arrested” terrorists send immediately to Denmark on vacation and social protection programs… Danes accept everybody and everything…. Since “there is something rotten in Denmark” and that something is not Jens

LOL. HTS is arresting members of the Turkish backed factions and yet the Turkish backed Jihadists are the ones supposedly threatening consequences for HTS’s actions, but only their Turkish masters can do that. And there are clear charges against the Turkish backed Jihadists, the charge is the Jihadists are opposing HTS’s cooperation with Assad and the Syrian Government, and HTS is arresting them for their opposition to that cooperation, that’s what the charge is. But the same Jihadists are also opposed to Turkey cooperating with Russia, so Turkey’s fighting both an internal and and external threat now. :] And the second statement is absolutely ludicrous. Assad’s been doing trade deals with HTS, reopening border crossings with them, arranging prisoner swaps, and more importantly not engaging in hostile activities against them, even though the Russians have occasionally attacked the TIP who are allied to HTS. But the SAA and HTS haven’t been fighting, it’s just the Turkish backed Jihadi terrorists and the moderate opposition who the SAA attack now, and that’s because the Turkish backed Jihadists and the moderate opposition are the only ones attacking the SAA, HTS doesn’t anymore. So when they say HTS is appeasing western powers are they simply ignoring the fact that HTS is more accurately appeasing Assad’s wishes/demands, as far as I’m aware HTS hasn’t done any trade deals with any western powers, they haven’t arranged any prisoner swaps, haven’t reopened any highways, or most importantly, asked to be included in the political process envisioned by resolution 2254, so who are they supposed to be appeasing in the west, everything they’ve done lately seems to suite Assad, not any of the western powers. But the Turkish backed terrorists want to be included in resolution 2254, and even the Turkish backed moderate opposition want the Turkish backed Jihadist included, and Turkey wants them included too, it’s only Russian and Iranian opposition that’s stopping Turkey including them in the UN deal. It’s true HTS is doing Turkey a big favour when it arrests the Turkish supported terrorists, but they’re doing it for their own reasons not for Turkey. The Turkish backed terrorists have become a threat to both Turkey and HTS now, they’re a threat to HTS because they’re totally opposed to HTS cooperating with Assad’s government, and they’re a threat to Turkey because they’re totally opposed to resolution 2254, they’re demanding to be included in the political process and Turkey can’t or won’t help them due to Russian opposition, hence their opposition to the M4 reopening and the joint Russian/Turkish patrols. The truth is Russia wants to implement resolution 2254 along with Turkey, the US, UN, and most of the western powers that are involved, but Assad, HTS, and the Turkish backed Jihadists don’t want the UN process to proceed, it doesn’t suit any of them, so even though militarily it works out that Russia, Iran and Syria are all on the same side opposing HTS, the Turkish backed Jihadists and Turkish backed moderate opposition, the US and UN, most western powers, politically it ends up being Syria, HTS, and the Turkish backed Jihadists on one side, with Russia, Iran, Turkey and the Turkish backed moderate opposition, the US, the UN, and most western powers on the other side. Resolution 2254 is the key to understanding most of Syria’s misery now, this resolution and it’s conflicting objectives are the real reason things may seem so confusing to many of us, Russia’s refusal to acknowledge the real objectives and consequences of resolution 2254 means that no one really understands why Russia cooperates with Turkey, the US bombs Jihadists in Idlib, Assad does deals with HTS, and the Turkish backed terrorists are trying to stop the M4 from reopening, but resolution 2254 explains everything, it explains all the contradictions and changes in relationships.
