Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has arrested members of so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
According to several opposition sources, HTS’ security forces arrested two member of the party in the town of Atimah in northern Idlib on August 29. Prior to that, seven members were arrested in the same area.
Hizb ut-Tahrir, which was founded in 1953 by Sheikh Taqiuddin al-Nabhani in East Jerusalem, calls for the restoration of Islamic Caliphate. Nevertheless, the party rejects the use of violence to bring about political change.
The sources said Hizb ut-Tahrir members were arrested for distributing leaflets and statements condemning Greater Idlib ceasefire and rejecting the recent Russian-Turkish agreement on the region.
A group of women gathered in Atimah to protest against the arrest of the party’s members. The women were brutally assaulted by HTS’ security forces.
HTS has been actively working to silence its critics in Greater Idlib, even those affiliated with jihadist groups. The group’s grip on the region has been getting tighter.
This month alone, HTS’ security forces arrested American journalist Bilal Abdul Kareem, British aid worker Tauqir Sharif and Syrian activist Fayez al-Daghim.

The Muslim Brotherhood, Isis, Erdogan and Turkey are all one and the same thing, HTS is now on a different page though, so if anyone ever wonders why Assad deals with HTS in preference to dealing with the Turks or their proxies [like Russia does], it’s because Assad believes the Muslim Brotherhood is actually Syria’s biggest enemy, not HTS. The funny thing is most of HTS’s faction members are foreigners and Jihadists, the Uighurs and Chechens for example, so it isn’t as simple as it sounds, but as I keep saying, Assad does deals with HTS but not the Turkish backed factions, and he’s not stupid, he’s doing it for a really good reason, and neither he nor HTS want the M4 reopened, just the Turks and Russia want that to happen, and a lot of SF readers too, maybe they should read some other news from time to time. HTS are terrorists though, they’ll still end up getting what they deserve in the end, but first they can help Assad defeat the Muslim Brotherhood/Turkey/Isis, then they might just get a little less of what they really deserve, but that’s only if they do a really good job, and Assad seems pretty fair to me, HTS must also think the same thing, I think a deals been done behind Russia’s back, Crafty Assad.
