Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) claimed control of several important sites inside the Manshieh district of the southern Syrian city of Daraa. According to HTS’ media, the terror group captured the Military Security headquarters inside the district and the Fayez al-Adib road during today’s attack.
As always, the group started the offensive with a VBIED.
In turn, sources embedded with the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) denied those claims and declared that the SAA continues to target HTS positions inside the contested district with heavy Burkan rockets.
The Syrian and Russian air forces targeted several important HTS positions inside Dara’a al-Balad with 14 airstrikes.
A heavy explosion reportedly hit one of the Syrian security branches inside Izra’ in what many media outlets described as Israeli bombing (more about here). However, the explosion was a result of a rocket attack by HTS. No casualties were reported.
It is expected that HTS will continue its attack on the Syrian Armed Forces inside the Manshieh district, aiming at capturing the entire provincial capital.
Most experts believe that this will be almost impossible even if the SAA is involved in large-scale operations at other fronts. Russia or even Jordan will not accept the fall of this imperative city to Al-Qaeda.
