More than 30 supporters of the reconciliation process in the northern Syrian governorate of Idlib have been arrested by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) security forces so far, the HTS-linked news network Iba’a reported on August 8.
“Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham will remain the bitter sword that eradicates the heads of traitors and spoilers and the campaign will continue until the liberated areas are cleared,” Hamza al-Faruk, a commander of HTS’ security forces, told Iba’a.
Earlier, Mayser al-Qahtani, a senior Iraqi commander of HTS, said via his official telegram channel that what happened in the southern governorate of Daraa will not be repeated in Idlib and warned that anyone who want to reconcile with the Damascus government will face “the sword.”
“There is no place for traitors in the liberated north,” al-Qahtani added.
Last week, HTS’ security forces launched an operation in Idlib against civilians and public figures who expressed their support for the reconciliation process.
HTS supporters are confident that this operation will sabotage any peaceful efforts in northern Syria. However, local observer believe that this aggressive policy will fail, if the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launches a military operation in the region.
