On June 19, a unit of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)’ elite forces infiltrated defense lines of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northern Lattakia countryside and raided an SAA position in the area of al-Fukharah, according the HTS-linked news network Iba’a.

Abd al-Aziz al-Mahmud, a commander of HTS’ elite forces, told Iba’a that HTS fighters killed more than seventeen soldiers and officers of the SAA during their attack in the northern Lattakia countryside. HTS fighters also destroyed a 23mm gun of the SAA.
A source in the SAA confirmed to SouthFront that HTS carried out a successful attack on a position of the SAA in al-Fukharah. According to the source, nine soldiers and officers of the SAA were killed in the attack.
The attack is a major violation of the Russian-Turkish-Iranian de-escalation agreement in the northern Lattakia countryside. The Russian Aerospace Forces will likely bomb the positions of HTS’ elite forces in northern Lattakia and Idlib in the upcoming hours in response to the attack.

Seems so. My father was in 1st Army in North Africa in WW2 . He was in the artillery manning 25 pounders. Although he always insisted on changing into pyjamas when he went to bed he did have a slit trench dug for him as protection with his camp bed at the bottom, even if a Two man Bivi Tent was erected over it :)

This happening in daylight highly complicates any possible explanation the jihadists could give, if asked about the episode – which of course it’s not going to happen.

if it wasn’t and “our patrol stumbled on a SAA camp”, it’s easily debunked by the total lack of lookouts and security on SAA side (The presence of “several officers” would mean that such measures would be heavily enforced), especially since the jihadist patrol seems to advance following a clear route (someone should explain the raghead specops the significance of “linear danger areas”)
Indeed and in recent decades the term ‘Officer ‘ has been debased to refer to secretaries (Clerical Officer’s) , Firemen, (Fire officer) , Rat catcher ( Environmental Officer) etc and even in the military Non Commissioned Officers are often described as Officers when there is a huge divide between a Commissioned Officer and an NCO.
Even the UK Police in the last few decades have blurred the term (police) Constable with the term Police Officer and ironically during that time the term ‘cuntstable’ would have been better suited to many of them :)
It seems everyone aspires to being an Officer. I fully expect to see Council Pothole Officers repairing the holes in my road very soon. That will of course be after a Pothole Marking Officer has sprayed paint around said hole in the road , so that the Pothole Officers can better see it :)
