Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham Elite Uzbek Jihadists Eliminated In Loitering Munition Strike On Syria’s Idlib

On November 7, seven Uzbek jihadists of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) were killed in a strike on the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human rights.

The jihadists were reportedly gathered near the town of Sarjah in the al-Zawiya Mount in the southern Idlib countryside when they were struck with a loitering munition.

The London-based monitoring group said the slain foreign jihadists were from an elite HTS unit known as “al-Majmu’a al-Istshhadiyah” [the Suicidal Squad].

“There is no information on the identity of the drone [loitering munition], whether it was Russian, Iranians or belonged to regime forces,” the SHOR’s report reads.

Last week, unidentified loitering munitions hit several militants’ positions in Greater Idlib. A howitzer was destroyed and three Turkish-backed militants were killed as a result of the strikes.

The ceasefire in Greater Idlib, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey earlier this year, appears to be on the brink of collapse. HTS and other terrorist groups are reportedly stepping up their attacks and deploying reinforcements along the frontlines with the Syrian Arab Army.

Earlier today, Russian warplanes carried out 13 airstrikes on positions in the al-Zawiya Mount. Government forces may launch a large-scale ground operation in the mountainous region soon.
