On October 6, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched a new attack on positions of the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement in the villages of Mizanaz and Kafr Nouran in the western Aleppo countryside, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
A day earlier, heavy clashes broke out in the town of Kafr Halab when HTS’s security forces attempted to arrest personnel of the of the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement. Later, Syrian opposition sources said that HTS and the National Front of Liberation (NFL), a Turkish-backed coalition that includes al-Zenki, have reached a ceasefires agreement.
Following the attack on Mizanaz and Kafr Nouran, commanders of the Nour al-Din al-Zenki Movement and the NFL accused HTS of violating the ceasefire agreement and said that several civilians were killed during the group’s attack.
According to the SOHR, six militants and three civilians have been killed in the clashes between HTS and al-Zenki and HTS so far. The situation will likely escalate in the upcoming hours as HTS appears to be determined to expand its control in the western Aleppo countryside, the heartland of the NFL.
