Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) news network, iba’a, announced on May 2 that the terrorist group had launched a barrage of 35 rockets at the Russian Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast.
The terrorist group said the rocket attack was a response to the continues airstrikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) on the opposition-held areas in Idlib and its surroundings.
The terrorist group’s rockets didn’t reach Hmeimim as they landed inside the town of Bakhdarmou, few kilometers east of the airbase. At least one civilian was killed and four others were injured.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) responded to the attack by destroying a rocket launcher of HTS inside the demilitarized zone around Idlib. Russian warplanes also carried out airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in southern Idlib and northern Hama.
Earlier, the Russian military announced that it had repelled 12 attacks with rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the Hmeimim airbase last month. The army confirmed that no material damage or casualties were caused.
This new attack on the Hmeimim airbase will likely further escalate the situation around Idlib, where the SAA is preparing to launch a large-scale military operation, according to pro-government sources.
It appears that US proxies are again being ordered to attack Russian bases.
Could this be due to the fiasco of US meddling in Ukraine and Venezuela in recent days ?
Could also be an effort by some party to draw the Russians into attacking Idlib.

Russia eliminated over 40,000,000 civilians in the 1920’s and 30’s alone. No army works without support of the local civilian population. in fact according to Evolution, their are no civilians. It is survival and elimination is the highest law of Evolution. I ask you this… Is it possible to defeat Israel without harming a single civilian? Was it possible for the Mongol conquest of Russia without killing a single Russian civilian? Did Russia conquer Poland three times without targeting the Civilians?

Exactly that is what Putin does-and he is wrong as has been proven. It is not a matter of “cooling off”. The US sees this as a zer0-sum game. Either we maintain our hegemony (already undermined but not in the mind of US foreign policy establishment, Pentagon, politicians, media elites etc) and Russia backs to its corner obediently, or we lose this hegemony with no return and Russia (China, Iran..) triumph. No middle ground, no cooling off.. Against such an opponent you must not give an inch.
Wonderful Russia-Turkey agreement for terrorists and Turkey. The only way to stop these terrorists attacks is with an offensive on Idlib, However, Russia does not want to bother Turkey terrorists and Turkey plans. At this moment at Idlib Russia is looking pritty bad from outside since it has the appearance that is Turkey which is controlling Russia on Idlib,
You forget the difficult situation with Turkey, who was and still is supporting terror gangs in Idlib.
Russia is being patient whilst Turkey moves away from the US and NATO. This takes time.
There is nothing that NATO would like better than for Russia and Turkey to start shooting at each other.

I agree that the de facto occupation of Idlib needs to end. I am confident that it will, and when the political situation is right it will be done.
To go in on a broad front with guns blazing now would only create a situation that the US could and would exploit, in what is , a most complicated war.
On a positive note, I was gratified to see that the boy ‘Williamson’ has been removed as Defence Minister. I won a small bet that he was the ‘leaker’ when the leak was first announced, lol. He was essentially a Defence Minister with the actual skills of a Lance Corporal. It is ‘highly likely’ that he was exposed by a senior officer within the MOD.

Turkey has a problem in that it has a base in Qatar, and Qatar has, and may well still, sponsored terrorism in Syria. Turkey is also dependent on Qatari loans.

No militia on earth fears Russia. The Taliban went head to head against the Soviet Empire with no fear. Russia launched thousands of air bombardments against the Taliban with no effect. Russian tank divisions useless against the people of Afghanistan. Seems judging by this war that Russians have learned nothing. Their is not a single militia in Syria that fears Russia at all. Freely they bomb the same Russian base for 4 years. Russia always claims to bomb them back, but the militia laugh and laugh. Oh Russia, you should not even use a single plane against these militia. You need to go on foot and confront them face to face like the Houthi do, or else just give up and go home back to Russia with your tail tucked between your legs like you did after your invasion of Afghanistan. Russia and Israel have the same exact military plans. Air bomb your opponents into submission and avoid sending ground forces to do that actual work. Russia is having as much success as Israel in 2006.
