On June 16, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) news network, Iba’a, released photos showing the terrorist group’s fighters launched new locally-made heavy rockets at Syrian Arab Army (SAA) positions in the northern Hama countryside.

The rockets, which were mounted on a pick-up truck, appear to be a type of improvised rocket-assisted munitions (IRAMs) built around the boosters of Grad 122m rockets. The IRAMs’ heavy warheads likely caused a significant reduction in the boosters’ range.

Bad welding marks and even open gaps can be spotted all over the new IRAM’s body. Such defects could lead to dangerously low accuracy.

Anti-government groups in Syria have been using IRAMs since late 2011. Such munitions are usually used to target military facilities, or as in most cases, against urban areas.
