Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham Repelled Syrian Army Attack On Helfaya

Support SouthFront

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) repelled a Syrian Arab Army (SAA) attempt to advance from the Mahardeh direction towards the town of Halfaya.

The SAA began the operation yesterday with a strong artillery fire on Halfaya in order to capture it. The Fifth Storming Corps and the National Defense Forces participated in the attack mainly. However, all attempts to capture the town have failed.

Furthermore, militants from HTS have targeted SAA positions with 130 mm artillery pieces. They also claimed that they had managed to seize a T-62m tank and a UAZ vehicle from the SAA.

US-backed Jaish al-Izza has destroyed a bulldozer belonging to the SAA around the town of Khattab with a Fagot ATGM missile.

Separately, HTS continued shelling of Mahardeh and Qamhana with mortar without causing any injuries.

The Syrian and Russian air forces targeted HTS and Jaish al-Izza gatherings and headquarters in Helfaya, Souran and Taybat al-Imam, allegedly causing casualties to militant group.

The SAA will likely continue its attempts to capture both Halfaya and Suran. However, a lack of the progress does not allow to suggest that government forces will be able to develop the advance successfully in the direction of Murek and Khan Sheikhoun without deploying additional reinforcements.

It could be a feint, where they keep pressure at the SW corner of the salient to draw in more HTS fighters from the north and east before they launch a major assault up the highway to Saran and beyond.

I should think that the US head-chopping, heart-eating rapers have received a measure of re-armament after their run of failures late last year and over the winter. I also hope that the Syrians are preparing an attack against the Idlib pocket from a different direction. With luck they could be back east soon, taking back more oil and gas fields.

Bill Wilson

Those extremists buy arms and munitions from anyone who can meet their price range. They’ve been buying guns and ammo made in Iran since those are fairly cheap.

SAA made no success in this week . It looks like that SAA is lacking of well-trained soldiers and the fighting morals of the NDF is so low. Maybe SAA have to wait for in 1-2 years, after having more some units are trained by Russia, SAA will have fresh successes

Toni Liu

They need surveilance equipment too seems these b*stard still able riding their junk under the sun, that means unacceptable when sky already owned by russian and syria, hope more surveilance equipment and we got more terrorist wreck lying around

Bill Wilson

It’s easy to hide and move around inside intact towns since there’s buildings to hide vehicles inside and block the view of aerial surveilance. It’s a different story when all the buildings are piles of rubble and there’s no dense overhead foliage to hide under.

Toni Liu

I thought hama and aleppo front consist more open field than a city, in the huge city like aleppo or dara and mountain forest like latakia or idlib maybe yes, but most of time you can see them shooting all of artilery , riding car or tank, mobilizing and moving large force over open field without problem, and what happen on palmira before where they moved thousand people over desert and saa too late to detect them, at least with good surveilance system they will had more advantage eventhough they only had few people to attack or guard that area, look other powerful but small country like israel where they put military surveilance and inteligence first then other, so they win because their good surveilance and inteligence not huge number of forces

dutchnational

In principle you are right of course.

So how were the islamists able to surprise the SAA when they started their offensive towards Hama and took several towns?

Solomon Krupacek

nowhere. near palmyra tokk some kilometers soutwest and lost gains in nordwest. aleppo: is the important jirah airbase occupied??? the saa is extremly week. wthout hezbollah they would be lost.

anyway, what is happened with desert hawks? for months i heard nothing about them.

they have no 1-2 years, in 1 years americans take 80% of syria. inclusive homs pocket…

“US-backed Jaish al-Izza has destroyed a bulldozer belonging to the SAA around the town of Khattab with a Fagot ATGM missile.”

What wise guy decided to name their brand of missile the “Fagot”?

Toni Liu

Thats old soviet missile, when they created nato give that name, maybe they didnt know whats a meaning for that words

Bill Wilson

Fagot is a term for a section of iron or steel stock that’s been heated red hot.

The Syrian army currently has at least 6 or more major battles going on 6 or more major fronts. You can’t expect them to win them all quickly at the same time. This is the Israeli master, racist, supremacist,,(USA the slaves of Israel) plan, to slow down the SAA so they can’t march east right now, to give the Kurds time to take Raqqa. I don’t think it will work. Also the Kurds are likely to lose a lot of their strength trying to take Raqqa. Let them try for now. All these offensives by various Israeli/ Saudi, head chopping, heart eating, child raping groups are not going well. Once they have exhausted their resources the SAA will advance quickly again I bet by the end of May 2017. That is why Israel ordered their USA slaves to fire those cruise missiles, because the SAA is doing well and Israeli -ISIS and Saudis, CIA Al-Qaida are losing.
