Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies have repelled the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) attack on their positions in the northern Lattakia countryside.

Units of the army’s 4th Division started an advance on November 29, capturing the 101 hilltop in the outskirt of the key town of Kabani. HTS responded by launching a counter-attack a day later. The army, which failed to fortify the 101 hill, was forced to withdraw from its newly-established positions there.

A source in the 4th Division, which led the failed attack, told SouthFront that “several” service members were killed or injured. The source also confirmed that a battle tank of the SAA was hit during the battle.

On December 1, HTS’s news network, Iba’a, released several photos of the battle around Kabani, thus confirming that the terrorist group was able to maintain its positions there.

HTS and other factions of al-Qaeda, like the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and Ajnad al-Kavkaz (AK), are in total control of Kabani and its outskirt. The terrorists launch regular attacks from there at SAA positions in the region.

The failure of the SAA’s attack on Kabani was likely the result of a lack of the air support. Northern Lattakia’s rough terrain makes aerial operations difficult and risky.

NO TANKS ON THE MOUNTAINS! What a mistake! SAA should have mercenaries and also other units.

Well, well, well, the same history as many many times before. Russia does not want a full SAA offensive here because Erdogan could get mad. So, we will continue with the same history for many many many years.
