On Saturday, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS; formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) took back Umm Haratayn and Qubaybat Abu al-Huda villages in the northern Hama countryside that were earlier captured earlier on Saturday by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), according to the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a.
The source added that HTS fighters killed 10 SAA soldiers and destroyed a BMP-1 of the SAA during their attack.

Moreover, opposition sources claimed that HTS captured Qubaybat and Tall Aswad villages south of Umm Haratayn village during its counter-attack. However, no side has confirmed these claimed so far.
Meanwhile, Syrian opposition sources confirmed that over 75 fighters of HTS and its allied US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) group – Faylaq al-Sham – were killed in a Russian airstrike that targeted an underground headquarter of Falaq al-Sham in Tell Mardikh village in the eastern Idlib countryside.
The sources reveled that many of the fighters who were killed in the Russian airstrikes were originally from Khan al-Shih and Darayya areas in Damascus governorate. The fighters had withdrawn to Idlib governorate after agreements with the Syrian government back in 2016.
HTS will likely continue to conduct limited attacks against the SAA in the northern Hama countryside for propaganda purposes. However, it’s very unlikely that HTS will be able to make any real change in the military balance in the area.

Why? Idlib is not like the desert in eastern Syria. It has good terrain for fighting and cities. Plus the rebels are advanced in skills with tunnel building tactics. As long as they get ammo supplies they can go on for years without being pushed back..

yeah but in the real world the numbers don’t really mean much, because in the end you know neither the number of dropped bombs or dead terrorist.
What is known though is the effect of bombings on the overall situation, and that pretty much shows the demise of jihadism in Syria.

Clearly bombing has a political and propaganda value greater than its effect on the official targets, because dropping big containers full of explosives off an aeroplane is inherently inaccurate. That’s why the US and its lickspittles peddle the myth of “surgical” “strikes” rather than “bomb attacks”. It isn’t the quantity of bombs that the GRAF have dropped, it’s their accuracy that counts. I bet that apart from a few good/lucky air raids, the greatest effect is in deterring movement in the open while Allied ground forces manoeuvre with impunity.

The article talks about Russian airstrikes, not the US so I remembered that the Russian and Syrian air campaigns have changed a situation that looked bleak for the Syrian people into one that paved the liberation of the country from terrorists and the destruction of the jihadist mercenary army that would have been unleashed on other countries if they won in Syria.
The US and its allies never did a real campaign, at least until Russia got involved. I base this assumption on the zero effect they had on ISIS advances until 2015 and it’s pretty clear by now why – because they wanted to exploit the calyphate to their own regime change aims.
Indeed and the US would have been happy for the Black Flag to be flying over Damascus with daily beheading’s in the main square and for Israel and the US to be looting Syria in collusion with ISIS Warlords who gave their fealty to the US.
This particular strike , sounds like the Russians knew the exact location of this operations room , and therefore was very effective . My guess is these people had some connection to the attempted kidnapping of the Russian police group. Or , maybe the Russians have spent a little cash on intel , and decided to get serious about Al Qaeda / FSA and take out the “more valuable assets” .

All indications are that the SAA & allies, but particularly Russia, have decided to answer the cowardly, and miserably failed Al Qaeda attempt to capture/kill Russian police officers with a ferocious, local offensive. RuAF in the air nonstop, arrival of Tiger Forces expected soon.

When asked about proof of bridges re crossings of the Euphrates, except for some namecalling, a video was showed that only showed two single pieces of ponton bridging, no bridge and crossing by amphicic vehicles.
So, at least for the moment, SAA has NO functioning bridges. Only a crickety old fishing boat and some amphibic vehicles.
