Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham Suffers Heavy Losses In Another Failed Attack

Support SouthFront

In the late hours of August 13, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled a large-scale attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) on its positions in the town of Qasabiyeh in the southern Idlib countryside.

According to pro-government sources, SAA soldiers destroyed a pick-up truck armed with a 14,5 mm machine gun while repelling the attack. The army also captured a battle tank of a unspecified type and a BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).

As usual, HTS didn’t acknowledge its losses. In the last few months, the terrorist group worked really hard to hide its losses and failed operations from the public.

After repelling the attack, the SAA was able to advance east of Qasabiyeh, reaching the western entrance of the key town of Khan Shaykhun after capturing several villages.

HTS’ repeated defeats in northern Hama and southern Idlib indicate that the terrorist group is suffering from serious command and control issues. The group’s situation will likely get worse as the army develops its operations in Greater Idlib.

All reporting of this war seems to use inaccurate language to describe the scale of attacks and losses etc.

“repelled a large-scale attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham ” The loss of a pickup truck, a tank and a BMP suggests the attack was a platoon size assault, or a company assault at most.

A large scale attack in my book is a regimental attack at the very least.

I am pleased that the SAA repulsed the attack of course.

Large scale attack when only a truck and tank a few guys are attacking is really a “large exaggeration of the action.”

I large scale to me, is anything that kills 3 or more vermin as I am easily pleased.

I think they mean large scale but in comparison to what little HTS has left, one pickup truck out of a total of ten, one tank from a total of five, and one BMP from a total of 10, so it’s a large scale attack if you don’t have much to start off with, and if you lose even just three of these precious vehicles, it’s a huge loss. I don’t think HTS has much of anything left, and mainly because they didn’t have that much to start off with, and with the attrition of time and constant bombing over the last three months, I can imaging most of it’s already been blown up already.

It would help then for the authors of reports to quantify the approximate terrorist numbers engaged in sush attacks, as well as the losses they do report.

“The group’s situation will likely get worse as the army develops its operations in Greater Idlib”. If it gets much worse than this for HTS they won’t be around for very much longer, they can’t have that much equipment left by now, and apart from the constant loss of fighters and territory, low morale must may also be making some of them contemplate their futures with HTS, so it must be nearly time for some mass desertions.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)
