Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) will execute Nour al-Shilo, a prominent Syrian opposition activist and media worker, opposition sources reported on November 17.

According to the sources, the terrorist group, which rules over the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, will carry out the execution on November 20.

Al-Shilo, a mother of three, became known through her work with a number of local pro-opposition outlets as well as non-government organizations, mainly Basmeh and Zeitooneh, a relief group that supports Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

Activist Nour al-Shilo

Two months ago, al-Shilo was arrested by HTS’ so-called security forces. Back then, her friends and relatives were told that she was being sued by the family of her deceased husband who want to take custody of the children.

However, opposition activists revealed later that al-Shilo was in fact accused of spying for the U.S.-led coalition. Some activists even alleged that she was also accused of working as a spy and a recruiter for the Syrian intelligence.

In a statement released on November 18, HTS claimed that al-Shilo was involved in “immoral and criminal” activities. The terrorist group didn’t deny the activists will be soon executed.

The accusations against al-Shilo were likely fabricated by HTS, which is working to eliminate any opposition to its rule in Greater Idlib.
