Heavy clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Turkish-backed militants erupted on January 8 in the northern al-Hasakah countryside, in the country’s northeastern region.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the clashes are taking place around the town of al-Munakh, to the northeast of the town of Tell Tamr. The Turkish artillery is reportedly involved.
“A Turkish aggression with artillery on the village of Umm Harmalah in Ras al-Ayn countryside,” the SANA’s reporter in the region said.
Sources close to Turkish-backed militants claimed that the army launched a small attack from al-Munakh on positions of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA). However, this is yet to be confirmed.
Earlier today, two car bombs exploded in the Turkish-occupied part of northern al-Hasakah, killing four Turkish service members and several Syrian militants.
The clashes in northern al-Hasakah appear to be limited and very likely a response by Turkey to the death of its four soldiers.

The YPG are supposed to be the Turks real targets and yet all they seem to do is attack the SAA, is this what Assad meant when he kept saying “the Turks are just using the Kurds as an excuse to occupy Syria”, it sure looks like it to me. The Israelis, the US, most of the EU, the UN, and the Arab League as well, have all been saying Assad can remain in power since June last year, that’s 17 months that all these parties have been saying Assad can stay on as the president of Syria, and also saying he can be re-elected to the position in free and fair elections when they’re held. But Erdogan has been saying the exact opposite, and also doing everything in his power to oust Assad illegally, and strangely enough his biggest ally in that endeavour has been Putin, Assad’s supposed ally.
