Heavy clashes between the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued in northern Syria on January 20 and 21, all while Israel was solidifying its presence in the south of the country.
The clashes in northern Syria remained limited to the eastern Aleppo countryside. SNA factions attacked the town of Khirbat al-Zamalah. However, they failed to capture the town and lost two fighters and five vehicles to the suicide and armed drones of the SDF.
In addition, the SNA and Turkish combat drones struck several posts of the SDF close to the Syriatel hill near the Tishreen Dam on the Euphrates River. In the same direction, SDF drones killed two fighters of the SNA.
Fighters from the SNA also attempted to infiltrate the defenses of the SDF near the town of al-Imam. However, the attempt failed and a fighter was killed.
Separately, two civilians were killed and 70 others were reportedly killed in Turkish drone strikes near the Tishreen Dam.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 459 people, including 338 fighters of the SNA, 75 fighters of the SDF and 46 civilians, have been killed since the start of the clashes in the eastern Aleppo countryside on December 12 of last year.
The confrontation between the SNA and the SDF led to tensions on other fronts. On January 21, the SDF reportedly struck a base of the Turkish military close to the town of Munakh in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. SOHR said that three troops were severely wounded as a result of the attack.
Meanwhile in southern Syria, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) is working to solidify its control over the territories it occupied after the fall of the Assad regime.
The SOHR and other Syrian media sources reported that the IDF has established at least seven military points in the countryside of al-Qunitra.
The points were established in the area of Qurs al-Nafl to northwest of the town of Hadar; at Tulul al-Hamar northeast of the town of Hadar; in the nature reserve in Jubata al-Khashab near the Agriculture Tower; to northeast of the town of al-Hamidiyya near the Al-Bawari factory; inside a house southwest of the Mantara Dam; on Tell al-Ahmar to the south of the town of Kudna and on the governorate building and the court in the city.
It’s worth noting that the IDF continues to ban the forces of the new Syrian government, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, from approaching the territories it occupies in al-Quneitra.
Last week, an Israeli drone strike hit a convoy of the so-called Military Operations Directory, killing two fighters and a civilian.
Overall, the clashes in northern Syria may reach their end soon as Turkey and the new Syrian government are said to be engaged in talks with the SDF. Progress was reported in recent days, with the United States pressuring both sides. However, the situation in the south appears to be more complex and despite repeated calls on Israel to withdraw, this will not likely happen anytime soon.

the only pity is that russia didn’t let assad’s head be cut off ten years ago.because in that case his people would keep him in good memory. as the afghans have preserved daoud khan in fond memory. my third cousin was a bush soldier and he said that daoud khan was praised by all the bacha boys who went to the base to beg for change. then my cousin took the guitar and bush soldiers sang “oh susanna!” together, and the bacha boys danced to them.
6th video guy laying on the ground whahaha. reminded me of peter griffin screaming in pain when he hurt his leg. 338 mercenary filth gone.
