Heavy Russian Airstrikes Hit Greater Idlib As Militants Continue To Violate Ceasefire (Videos, Photos)

On July 29, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a series of airstrikes on the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, where militants continue to violate the ceasefire agreement that was brokered by Russia and Turkey last year.

The Russian airstrikes targeted militants’ positions near the towns of al-Bara, Mareian and Ehsim in the southern countryside of Idlib.

The airstrikes were a response to the repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib. The militants, led by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, violate the agreement on a daily basis.

In a recent attack, the militants targeted a gathering of Syrian troops in the town of Hass in southern Idlib with an anti-tank guided missile.

The militants also launched a drone, a commercially-available Skywalker X8, at army positions in the town of Kafr Nable, also located in southern Idlib. The drone was successfully shot down by Syrian troops.

Over the last week, Russian warplanes carried out dozens of airstrikes on Greater Idlib militants. Nevertheless, the militants continue to challenge the ceasefire in the region.

The militants’ provocations may soon force the Syrian military and its allies to resume ground operations in Greater Idlib. This will almost certainly lead to a confrontation with Turkish forces, which maintain a large presence in the region.

And the battle continues to simmer but compared to before the ceasefire agreement it is quite peaceful. This is going to continue for years like this unless there is a full on battle again which at this stage appears highly unlikely. Just enough to keep testing weapons and equipment.

Terrorist deaths are not enough!! thus not making a winning difference for Syria in the war.
