Hezbollah announced on July 6 that it had launched a “squadron” of suicide drones at an artillery position of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) near the settlement of Beit Hillel.
The attack was carried out in response to a series of Israeli artillery strikes that targeted southern Lebanon a day earlier, the group said in a statement, noting that the targeted artillery position, which belongs to the 403rd Battalion of the IDF’s 91st Division, was responsible for the strikes.
The group also noted in its statement that the attack was carried out “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to support their brave and honorable resistance.”
From its side, the IDF said that at least four suspected drones were launched from Lebanon in northern Israel. Two were shot down by air defenses over the Galilee Panhandle area, while the other two struck open areas near, according to the IDF, which said that the attack didn’t result in any casualties. Video footage showing the successful interceptions were released.
It’s worth noting that the IDF carried out a series of strikes against targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon overnight. The targets included a building used by the terror group in Kafr Kila, several operatives in Bint Jbeil, and other infrastructure in Bint Jbeil and Yarine, the IDF said in a statement. There were no reports of casualties.
Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Strip last October.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 16 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 343 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 90 civilians.
