Hezbollah Claims It Shot Down Second Israeli Military Drone In Few Days (Video)

Squadron 161 (“The Black Snake”) marks its reopening as the only “Zik” Squadron (Hermes 450) in the UAV, absorbing all the “Zik” aircraft from Squadron 166 (“Firebirds”). Taken on 6 December 2020 by Amit Agronov. Source: the Israeli Defense Forces.

Early on October 2, Hezbollah announced that it had shot down a drone of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) over the Israeli-Lebanese border.

The drone was targeted with an “surface-to-air missile” while it was conducting a sortie over the towns of Hunin and al-Malkiyya, the group said in a statement, adding that the drone received “direct hit” and “immediately crashed”.

The IDF confirmed that a surface-to-air missile was launched by drone. However it said that the drone in question was not hit.

The cell behind the missile launch as well as the launch site were targeted, the IDF said. It also announced that ground forces fired artillery shells toward the source of rocket fire after projectiles were launched at the Shebaa Farms and Mount Hermon region.

This was the second time Hezbollah has claimed to shoot down an IDF drone since clashes broke out on the Lebanon front following the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip.

The first drone was shot down on October 29, according to the group’s claims. The IDF didn’t comment on these claims back then.

Hezbollah maintains a large arsenal of short and medium-range air defense systems. Last month, it was confirmed that the group was in possession of the mysterious Iranian-made “358″ loitering anti-aircraft missile after it used one in an attempt to shoot down an IDF drone.

Clashes on the Lebanon front intensified in the last 24 hours. The IDF carried out a series of strikes against alleged Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and killed two civilians who were herding their sheep near the border.

So far, clashes on the Lebanon front have claimed the lives of eight Israelis -six soldiers and two civilians- 45 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, seven Palestinian fighters -three from the Hamas Movement and four from the Islamic Jihad- and seven Lebanese civilians -two shepherds, a teenager, two elderly men and two journalists-.
