A soldier of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) was wounded on July 10 when Hezbollah launched a “squadron” of suicide drone at the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The drones targeted the headquarters of the 210th Division’s artillery regiment in the Yarden barracks, Hezbollah said in a statement, noting that the attack was carried out in response to the assassination of one of its senior commanders, a former bodyguard of the group’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, on the Beirut-Damascus highway in Syria two days earlier.
According to an IDF statement, three drones were launched from Lebanon in the attack, and impacted near the Beit Hamikdash junction in the Golan. The military said that it was investigating why warning sirens did not sound and why it failed to intercept the drones.
The attack was one of four launched by Hezbollah during the day. The other three attacks saw the group firing a barrage of rockets at another artillery position of the IDF in the area of al-Zaoura in the Golan, targeting a building occupied by Israeli troops in the settlement of Shtula and shelling a military gathering between the sites of al-Samqa and al-Ramtha.
In addition, the group’s Military Media released videos showing recent guided missile strikes on the settlement of Admit and the border sites of Hadib Yaren and Birkat Richa.
In response to these attacks, the IDF said it struck targets of Hezbollah in the southern Lebanese towns of Tayr Harfa, Taybeh, Ayta al-Shaab, Rab al-Thalathine, Odaisseh, Ramyeh and Khiam. No casualties were reported by Lebanese media however.
Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in the Gaza Strip after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave last October.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 16 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 347 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 90 civilians.
