Hezbollah launched on July 12 another wave of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from its heartland, southern Lebanon.
In three separate statements, the group said its fighters targeted surveillance systems at a field intelligence gathering center in the Metula settlement, shelled a group of Israeli troops who were building fortifications near the site of Hanita and struck the Ruwaisat al-Qarn site.
The attacks were carried out “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to support their brave and honorable resistance,” Hezbollah noted.
Hebrew media didn’t report any casualties. Still, retaliatory Israeli strikes hit southern Lebanon. Lebanese media said that the IDF’s artillery shelled the towns of Blida, Muhaybib, Ainata and Aitaroun. There were no losses however.
In a separate incident, Israeli troops opened fire at an armored vehicle of the Lebanese Armed Forces near the southern Lebanese town of Wazzani. The vehicle was slightly damaged in the attack, but none of the soldiers who were aboard was wounded.
Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in Gaza after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Strip last October.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 17 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 347 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 90 civilians.
