Hezbollah intensified its strikes against Israel on October 5, firing more than a hundred rockets at targets in the northern region of the country.
In separate statements, the Lebanese group said that the rocket attacks targeted Ma’ale Golani Barracks, a military-industrial complex in the settlement of Sakhnin and Ramat David Air Base in addition to the settlements of Safed, Karmiel and Sa’sa.
The group also said that its fighters shelled several gatherings of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) along the border and struck a Merkava main battle tank at a height near the border area of Hursh Maroun.
Hebrew media said that more than 110 rockets were launched from Lebanon, with many being intercepted by Israeli air defenses or landing in open areas. No fatalities were reported. Nevertheless, there were reports of damage and multiple fires.
From its side, the IDF said that its troops launched more raids along the border with Lebanon, locating caches of weapons, tunnel shafts and killing several Hezbollah fighters.
The military even claimed that it has killed as many as 400 fighters of the group since the start of ground operations in southern Lebanon earlier this week. Nine Israeli troops were confirmed to have been killed in these operations so far. In the last 24 hours alone, Hebrew media reported that 38 were wounded.
Lebanese media reported more Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa Valley, the southern suburbs or Beirut and other strongholds of Hezbollah and its allies on October 5, with many strikes targeting civilians, medics and first responders. The IDF said that it struck targets of Hezbollah and its intelligence division, including weapon depots, command rooms and other infrastructure.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah and its allies launching near-daily attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave.
Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah. The IDF officially announced the launch of a ground operation in Lebanon on September 30.
Overall, the confrontation between Hezbollah and IDF has so far resulted in 26 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 31 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, over 2,000 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
