Late on April 12, Hezbollah launched a large barrage of rockets and several suicide drones at targets of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
In two separate statements, the group said that the rocket attack targeted IDF artillery positions in the al-Zaoura area and the drones targeted the Ramot Naftali base, both located in the Galilee panhandle. The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, according to the group.
From its side, the IDF said around 40 rockets were launched, some of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, while others impacted open areas or fell short in Lebanon.
The IDF also announces that its air defenses shot down two suicide drones which were launched by Hezbollah at northern Israel.
Sirens sounded amid the two attacks, including as a result of falling shrapnel from the interceptions. However, there were no reports of casualties or damage.
The attacks came not long after the IDF said that it struck several buildings used by Hezbollah, where fighters were gathered, in the southern Lebanese town of Ayta ash-Shab. Another building belonging to the group in the town of Taybeh was also hit, the IDF added. Taybeh is also located in southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah.
Lebanese media didn’t report any civilian casualties and Hezbollah didn’t announce any losses as a result of the Israeli strikes.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.
It’s worth noting that the border clashes have so far resulted in eight civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 256 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
