A military official of Lebanon’s Hezbollah was killed on July 18 in an Israeli strike that targeted the heartland of the group, southern Lebanon.
Lebanese military sources told China’s Xinhua news agency that an Israeli combat drone fired three missiles at the official’s car while it was moving in the mountains of Jibal al-Butm between the towns of Seddiqine and Zibqine.
The attack resulted in the death of the official, Hassan Mouhanna, who was involved in military operations in the western part of the border region in southern Lebanon. Mouhanna was later mourned by Hezbollah in an official statement.
Separately, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its fighter jets struck an infrastructure of Hezbollah in the town of Ain al-Tineh in the eastern Lebanese governorate of Beqaa. The IDF also said that it struck two military posts of the group in southern Lebanon.
Earlier in the day, Mohammad Hamid Jabara, a member of both the Lebanese Islamic Group and the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted the town of Ghazze in Beqaa. Jabara, according to the IDF, was responsible for advancing and carrying out attacks, including rocket fire, on Israel.
Hezbollah has not yet responded to the recent Israeli strikes. However, the group announced two attacks in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip.
In separate statements, the group said its fighters struck surveillance and intelligence gathering equipment of the IDF in the Hadib Yaren border site and the settlement of Metula.
Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in Gaza after the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Strip last October.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 17 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 352 fighters of Hezbollah and over 90 civilians.
