Hezbollah fired dozens of heavy rockets at northern and central Israel on November 24, causing several casualties and serious damage.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that some 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon at the Upper and Western Galilee, as well as at the Haifa Bay area. At least eight other rockets targeted the country’s central region, according to the military.
While the IDF claimed that many of the rockets were successfully intercepted by its air defenses, videos posted to social networks showed serious damage at the city of Haifa as well as at the area of Petah Tikva and Rinatya near the city of Tel Aviv.
Israel’s Magen David Adom ambulance service said that a man was seriously wounded in the Upper Galilee, adding that at least two others were wounded in Haifa and two others near Tel Aviv.
From its side, Hezbollah said that the attacks targeted several bases of the IDF in central Israel, including the Glilot base, home to the Israeli military intelligence Unit 8200, and the Palmachim Air Base. The group noted that advanced rockets and suicide drones were used in the attacks.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip in October of last year, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah.
The IDF escalated further on September 30 by launching a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
All in all, the confrontation has so far resulted in 45 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 74 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 3,600 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
