On September 30, Hezbollah announced that its fighters had shot down an Israeli drone over its heartland, South Lebanon.
In a statement, Hezbollah said that the drone was targeted with “suitable weapons” while it was flying over Maryamen valley near the town of Yater.
The Lebanese group shared photos of the small drone that was clearly made up of commercially-available parts. The drone is powered by five electric engines, four directed downward, most like for vertical takeoff and landing, and a larger one directed backward, apparently the drone’s main propellant. The drone also has short fixed wings.

The drone’s main payload was a Sony Alpha mirrorless digital camera that was installed under the main body on a stabilized gimbal. The drone was also equipped with a small forward-looking camera.

Avichay Adraee, a spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces, acknowledged that a drone was lost over Lebanon without elaborating.
“A while ago, during a regular activity, a military drone fell inside Lebanese territory,” Adraee said. “The incident is under investigation.”
Hezbollah and the Lebanese military shot down several small Israeli military drones over the last few years. The IDF does not usually respond to such incidents.
The drone shot down by Hezbollah over Maryamen valley was apparently especially designed to carry out a specific mission. The Lebanese group rapid response confirms that the drone was flying over a sensitive area.
