Hezbollah unveiled on October 16 a precision-guided artillery rocket dubbed Nasir-1 with a range of around 100 kilometers.
The group’s Military Media released video footage of the Nasir-1, which appears to be a Syrian-made M302 artillery rocket upgraded with a guidance kit. The 302 mm rocket has an accuracy of less than five meters with a warhead weighing 100 kg.
The precision-guided artillery rocket is capable of “deceiving” air defense systems and is “immune” to jamming, the group stated in the video.
The presence of a guidance kit for the M302, which makes up the block of Hezbollah’s longer range rockets, have long been suspected. The group said that the Nasir-1 was developed by its engineers. While this is possible, the group may have also received help from Syria and Iran.
Separately, the group released a video revealing the specifications of the Qadir-2 precision-guided ballistic missile that was unveiled a day earlier.
The video states that the Qadir-2 has a range of 250 kilometers and an accuracy of less than five meters. The missile is also armed with a high-explosive warhead weighing 405 kg.
It’s worth noting that Hezbollah unveiled the first generation of the missile, the Qadir-1, on September 5. The design of both versions is very similar to that of the Iranian-made Fateh-110 precision-guided ballistic missile. Yet, the group claims that they were designed by its engineers.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah.
The IDF announced the launch of a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on September 30. Since then, the group has escalated its strikes on Israel to an unprecedented level.
