After months of public and private testimony, the House Intelligence Committee chaired by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has released their impeachment report accusing President Trump of misconduct by withholding military aid to Ukraine unless various demands were met.
Trump is also accused of obstructing the impeachment inquiry by instructing witnesses and agencies to ignore subpoenas for documents and testimony, as well as intimidating and tampering with witnesses.
“No other President has flouted the Constitution and power of Congress to conduct oversight to this extent,” reads the report. “If left unanswered, President Trump’s ongoing effort to thwart Congress’ impeachment power risks doing grave harm to the institution of Congress, the balance of power between our branches of government, and the Constitutional order that the President and every Member of Congress have sworn to protect and defend.”
“The decision to move forward with an impeachment inquiry is not one we took lightly. Under the best of circumstances, impeachment is a wrenching process for the nation. I resisted calls to undertake an impeachment investigation for many months on that basis, notwithstanding the existence of presidential misconduct that I believed to be deeply unethical and damaging to our democracy. The alarming events and actions detailed in this report, however, left us with no choice but to proceed.”
On Tuesday night, the committee will meet in a 6 p.m. ET closed-door session to formally adopt the report. Members of the committee began reviewing the majority report Monday evening.
The report comes one day after Republicans on the House Intel committee released their own “prebuttal” claiming Trump committed “no quid pro quo, bribery, extortion, or abuse of power. The Democrats’ report will be combined with the ‘prebuttal’ and sent to the House Judiciary Committee, which will draft articles of impeachment following their own inquiry.
Prebuttal bullet points (Via Axios):
- They claim there is “nothing inherently wrong” with the Trump administration’s actions toward Ukraine and justify each of them in detail, including Rudy Giuliani’s direct involvement in U.S. diplomacy.
- They say any references to a quid pro quo are conjecture and hearsay — including EU Ambassador and Trump donor Gordon Sondland’s testimony.
- They question the origins of the impeachment inquiry and Democrats’ motives, and they allege that Democrats have wanted to undo the 2016 election since Trump won.
- They mock Democrats for calling the impeachment inquiry a serious process, and they characterize the speedy nature of the inquiry as proof that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is motivated by politics rather than substance.
- They use Trump’s well-known skepticism about U.S. spending on foreign aid as justification for his hesitation to give money to Ukraine.
- They say there was “nothing wrong” with asking questions about Hunter Biden’s role on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian company, or renewing unfounded allegations about who interfered in the 2016 elections.

I would say that the decades of dumbing down Americans has created a nation of gross ignorance. In the past, the MSM controlled the narrative which in turn manufactured public opinion made easy by public ignorance.
I grew up in the US in the seventies and the education system is skewed heavily to a US centric worldview and let me just say that when I returned to Canada, it was then I learned about the outside world.
Today, we have two tribes facing off to each other and I do not mean US and Russia. It is the developing civil war in the US with two competing visions for the coming NWO – uni versus multipolar. Multipolar has the clear upper hand but we can all still lose in the nuclear age.
The split in the MSM and rise of Trump has brought out into the open an internal civil war that divides the nation on multiple levels, including the very institutions and agencies within the US – the CIA is deeply divided regarding the rank and file as many do not support the politicalization of agencies and for good reasons.
The civil war is intensifying in a dangerous direction as elites mobilize the population polarizing into camps opposing each other – often referred to as Democrats versus Trumpers – I see it as Fox News versus CNN/MSNBC. Gathering the people behind populist leaders aided by ignorance is a two edged sword as an empowered citizenry are not so easy to control as elites think as was demonstrated in the French Revolution.
In 2014 I wrote an assessment of prospects for a French Revolution scenario repeating in the US and my concerns have only increased. In 2014 the civil war raged behind the scenes but now populist forces have been mobilized and the process of radicalizing is well under way.
The way things are heading, elites seriously risk loss of control and when that happens, the American Revolution begins.

The problem is the massive stockpiles of WMD dispersed geographically across the globe and keeping them secure. Estimates I have seen estimate 30 to 35% of the US military will revolt in the case of the civil war going hot.
This conservative estimate is way to high and we can expect opposing camps to each possess military assets that include nuclear biological and chemical. The chances of one side resorting to use Of WMD is in my opinion is very very high and the chance of keeping it a limited use is very very unlikely.
We all need to think about how such a scenario can be avoided because an American Revolution/civil war means everybody loses.

Seriously? An American Civil War would not destroy the world. A nuclear war between Russia, China, and NATO on the other hand would destroy everything.
Yes it could destroy the world. Very easily. The US has military bases across the globe. These bases would be targets and many possess tactical nukes so would not be long before we have tactical nuclear strikes all across the globe and expect rapid escalation.
Further, other nuclear states could back one side against the other. There is another angle for escalation.
Let us suppose one side in the civil war only uses nukes. The other side will retaliate unless their counter strike ability is eliminated by the first strike. But, Other nations with nukes have to be factored in and evaluate their reaction…
Keep thinking it through and you will find plenty of ways the situation quickly escalates .

I agree with your comment. I would however like to chime in on the French and American Revolutions part. Contrary to popular belief (promulgated by a distorted narration of history in the hands of the “victors”, namely the Brits), the “French” Revolution was anything but an indigenous French action. It was a British reactionary/terrorist coup to preserve British hegemony on the continent and beyond following their defeat in the American Revolution. Aside from the British economic policies (aka Free Trade) imposed upon France that literately destroyed the country and reduced its population to abysmal misery and poverty, British agents in France (the Duke Duke of Orléans, Dalton, Necker, et al.) orchestrated and facilitated the necessary events (e.g. Affair of the Diamond Necklace, etc) to make sure it led to what is erroneously known to date as the “French” Revolution. Upon his return from the USA, de Lafayette wanted to emulate the success of the American Revolution for the same purpose of getting rid of the British grip. Had he been successful, it would have been the end of the Anglo-Saxon British Empire. Lets remember the alliance between France and the USA; and France and others in Europe at the time (namely Prussia).
Should the ruling class in the USA loose control, a potential “French” Revolution would take place; not an American one. What the US and the rest of the world need is an American Revolution; one that gets rid of the Anglo-Saxon perpetual chaos/wars/usury system.
